Valg av stang til ulike fiskemetoder
Lengden på stangen påvirker kastelengde og presisjon. Kortere stenger, gjerne under 210 cm, gir bedre kontroll ved fiske fra båt eller i tett vegetasjon, mens lengre stenger egner seg til kasting fra land der man trenger ekstra rekkevidde. Aksjonen beskriver hvor på stangen bøyen starter: en rask aksjon bøyer først i den øvre delen og gir hardere hugg-respons, mens en moderat eller langsom aksjon bøyer lenger ned og jevner ut belastningen ved drag fra større fisk.
Materiale og tilpasning til snelletype
De fleste spinnstenger er bygget i karbon eller en kombinasjon av karbon og glassfiber. Karbon gir lav vekt og god følsomhet for å registrere napp, mens innslag av glassfiber øker bruddstyrken og tåler tøffere bruk. Stangen bør velges ut fra hvilken snelletype den skal brukes sammen med, og kasteviktangivelsen bør stemme overens med aktuell sneline- og agnvekt for å unngå overbelastning av blanken.
